In recent years, Arcadis has grown strongly. This is partly due to acquisitions of other companies. In order to guarantee quality and customer satisfaction, the organization has rolled out a set of best practices (supported by an IT system) that must be applied worldwide. Fresh Forces was asked to develop a game that introduces managers and employees of Arcadis to this ‘Arcadis Way’.
The ‘Arcadis Way’ is a combination of a central IT system, in which all processes are recorded, and a set of best practices about the way of working and the desired behavior from employees. The game emphasizes on the second.
In the game ‘Quality of Life’ players have to breathe new life into the fictional city of Rila. For this we have developed a representation of the primary process of Arcadis with associated roles, such as account leader, project manager, engineer, etc. In addition, players can also take on the role of one of Arcadis’ customers. Everyone has to work together to realize important projects for the city to flourish in the 21st century.
The players encounter the most important challenges and dynamics of working together within Arcadis such as transfer of sales to delivery, efficient management of projects, co-creation with customers, and more. During and after the game they reflect on their way of working, the behavior shown and how this compares to the best practice of ‘The Arcradis Way’.
The game was launched at the Global Leadership Forum in Berlin in 2016. Here, Arcadis’ top 150 managers played in a 15-parallel game run, under the guidance of Arcadis’ own facilitators. These facilitators were trained by Fresh Forces.
The 15 game kits were then used to roll out the game worldwide within the organization as part of the implementation of ‘The Arcadis Way’.
